Jenny and Ben had been trying for a baby for three years before they had further testing to find out why they could not conceive. Test results showed Jenny had cysts on her ovaries and Ben’s sperm test revealed low morphology. The couple were advised to try IVF, but both needed to lose weight before they could be considered for NHS funding. With the help of the couch to 5k app and some Slimming World cookbooks, the couple were able to lose the weight within seven months. Read their full story here: moredetails.uk/37Rtop4 ... This week is Mental Health Awareness week and the theme for 2022 is loneliness.

At our monthly support group, patients have expressed how loneliness is often something they feel when everybody around them seems to be falling pregnant, making them feel that they are the only one who can’t conceive.

Former patient Anna said, “We were in our own little bubble and thought we were the only ones struggling.”

Jackie Stewart, an independent fertility counsellor, said these feelings are totally normal: “By giving yourself the best support and allowing some of these feelings to be present, it is possible to work safely with these thoughts and feelings.”

Read more tips from Jackie over on our website - link in the bio.

Tanya and Matt married in 2012 and began trying for a baby but unfortunately had trouble conceiving. Tests revealed that Tanya had an under-active thyroid, which affects a woman’s ovulation patterns.

The couple were not eligible for NHS funded IVF as Tanya also had a low AMH score, so the couple used @accessfertility to fund their treatment.

“We would 100% recommend Bourn Hall. I wouldn’t have gone anywhere else. After we had Ethan, we were always going to go back there and the Access Fertility packages ticked all the boxes. I can’t fault them at all.”

“Must be the menopause!” We have all heard this expression before but what exactly is the menopause? 🤔

The menopause marks the end of your menstrual cycles, when a woman stops having periods and is no longer able to get pregnant naturally.

This usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55, when your ovaries stop producing as much of the hormone oestrogen and no longer release an egg each month.

Early menopause cannot be prevented but you can get an assessment of your ovarian reserve (AMH) and your fertility health through fertility tests.
