Starting your fertility journey
Our patient-centred care is based on over 45 years of expertise gained from being the world’s first IVF clinic.
The first step is to find out more about your options. Following a discussion of your journey to date, medical history and review of any test results, our team will give you recommendations for starting your journey with Bourn Hall.
Fertility testing
As a self-funding patient you can choose to self-refer to Bourn Hall and have testing and treatment in a calm environment, away from the stress of a hospital. Testing and a diagnosis is available within six weeks, and you can start treatment within a month as appropriate.
If you already have recent tests from your GP, hospital, or another clinic then you won’t have to repeat them, but some additional testing may be required. Our team will talk this through with you. More information about our range of fertility testing.
Fertility treatment
For some conditions such as blocked tubes or low sperm count, IVF is the only treatment. However, for other issues, for example irregular ovulation, other options will be recommended first. Once you have test results and a diagnosis a treatment plan will be discussed and agreed. We will provide you with a fully costed plan and you will be given options for funding your treatment.
All your treatment, including egg collection and embryo transfer, can take place in our Wickford or Cambridge clinics and you can additionally choose to have your fertility testing at either Colchester, Wickford or Cambridge, whichever is most convenient for you.
Bourn Hall also provides NHS funded IVF treatment across Essex. If you are eligible for NHS funded treatment, following your NHS Level 2 testing you can choose to have treatment at Bourn Hall. More information about fertility treatment.

“We chose to make an appointment at Bourn Hall Wickford because of the favourable reviews. When we got there and met the staff they were just so lovely, making us feel welcome and explaining to us what tests would need to be done and what our options were; we just thought ‘yes, let’s get the ball rolling!”

“We chose Bourn Hall Wickford because it was really handy – we live in Wickford, and I was travelling to London for work, so I could do early morning appointments at the clinic which was helpful. I saw the same consultant at Bourn Hall as I had at Basildon Hospital, Dr Jadhav, so he knew us and all our background.”

“We went to an open evening at Bourn Hall Wickford and came away feeling really positive about the place. The staff were really friendly and the presentation was clear about the statistics regarding success rates and live birth rates; their data was very transparent. We came away feeling like we would really be looked after.”

Victoria and Neal are parents to Alex after IVF
“The staff at Bourn Hall Colchester were just amazing. I am not sure we would have been able to go through the entire process if we had gone to a London clinic simply because of the additional time and stress it would have generated. I cannot thank or praise them enough and the support and understanding the nursing staff gave us throughout was just wonderful.”
