Fertility Support Group – fertility after loss

Our next virtual Fertility Support Group will be taking place on Thursday 22 October at 6:30pm.

Pregnancy and baby loss can be a very private grief as it is a subject that many find too painful to talk about. For those going through fertility treatment, the fear of future loss can be ever present and create anxiety in pregnancy.

So, our October meeting Fertility after loss will focus on this difficult subject, and explore ways in which individuals and couples can gain strength and with the right support, move forward on their fertility journey.

Our meeting occurs a week after the global ‘Wave of Light’ when people are encouraged to light a candle to remember all the babies that have died. The initiative is supported by a number of organisations that have come together to help break the taboo that surrounds this experience. #BLAW2020, #WaveOfLight.

Fertility after loss

We are fortunate to be joined by two guest speakers at our October meeting:

Abi Ingrey, a Bourn Hall IVF patient

Abi was able to conceive naturally, but devastatingly had eight miscarriages before the couple were referred for IVF. She will talk about how she and her husband coped with treatment after loss. Happily, they were successful with IVF and have since had another baby naturally that came as a delightful surprise. Abi is looking forward to supporting the work of a nationwide charity called CRADLE, at Bedford Hospital.

Karen Burgess, Founder and CEO of Petals, the Baby Loss Counselling Charity

Karen will talk about the challenges that couples face in coping with early pregnancy or baby loss – over 50% of respondents to a recent survey had experienced a miscarriage – and the strategies that they find helpful.
